About

Learn a little bit more about who we are and how we got here.

we don’t give a f*ck about “weddings”

We don’t really care about table runners, invitation suites, bespoke cake toppers, or this season’s bridal dress trends, and we definitely aren’t down with the Wedding Industrial Complex who tries to make you think there is a right and wrong way to celebrate your love and commitment.

we give a f*ck about people

You and your partner. Your friends, family and chosen community. The people who had a hand in making you the rad humans you are today; These people understand a commitment like “in sickness and health, richer and poorer, better or worse” because they’ve already proven it to you over and over again. Don’t get us wrong, that other stuff can be loads of fun, but people and relationships are the heart of why we do this work.

A LITTLE BIT ABOUT TWISTED AISLE WEDDINGS

Twisted Aisle Weddings is a team of kickass documentary wedding photographers who capture all the raw emotions, ‘imperfect’ moments, sideways glances, belly laughs, and quiet moments that make up a wedding day and tell the story of your relationships and your life.

We are a group of folks who are a little bit punk rock, a little bit nerdy, and 100% committed to social justice.

All Bodies. All Genders. All Loves.

A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOU

Most TAW clients tend to be fun-loving, silly, genuine, a little (or a lot) nerdy and have adventurous spirits. They value the beauty in simple moments and are interested in having keepsakes of the interactions, connections and relationships between the people at the wedding rather than a lot of big, flashy, posed setups.

The people who hire us want to have a relationship with their photographer so that it feels like a friend is thier capturing their day; Someone who’s invested in their story and their family and their memories not just some rigid Hired Hand who treats it like any other job. This is important to note because if there’s dancing you will most definitely see us out on the floor busting a move with your mother-in-laws and catching it all on camera.

Couple’s Concierge

I’ll be the name and face coordinating  your wedding photography team! But that’s not all, I’m here to help you along on your wedding planning adventure even if it’s not photography related. Think of me like a concierge, here to help point you in the right direction for easy planning tools, connecting to other vendors and, a maybe even a little dose of sanity when planning gets a bit intense. I’m looking forward to talking with you!

I’m a big ol nerd. Science, random animal facts, historical triva about any place I travel, basic geek culture… I’m definitely a generalist when it comes to my nerdy interests. Recently my partner and I have had a bit of an obsession with backing new tabletop games on Kickstarter and we’ve officially run out of places to put them in our tiny home.

We’ve got a little longboi chorkie named Arlo. He’s as terrier as terriers can be and I just want to squish his little face all the time.

I’m really active in the body acceptance realm (especially as it affects folks in minority intersections) and it influences pretty much every aspect of my art and my work.

  •  I believe few things are better than a hoppy beer paired with the right bourbon- But if it gets over 90 degrees I will totally drink cold pink wine.
  • I usually listen to weird rock or doom metal while I edit photos though I’ve been known to blast musical theater soundtracks in the car with the windows down.
  • I have a bit of a potty mouth when I’m not working with clients and probably owe my niece enough Swear Jar change to send her to college.
  • You don’t even have to ask, the answer is always YES I want to see photos of your pets!
  • I have a passionate love/hate/love relationship with horror movies.

I taught myself photography in the early 00’s by shooting shows in Portland’s dingy rock clubs and basements, most of which no longer exist. In 2013 I quit a cushy, yet soul-sucking, office job in favor of full-time freelancing. My wife was pregnant with daughter #2, so it was a terrible financial decision, but a fantastic life decision. I’m incredibly fortunate and grateful that it has worked out (mostly). I still love music photography, but I really love photographing “regular” people and making them look awesome, whether it’s their wedding day or a simple portrait.

I have a wonderful and supportive wife who puts up with my unpredictable and truly maddening work schedule. We are the proud owners of two wonderful daughters who have taught me patience, selflessness, and how to put hair in a bun. Braiding has thus far eluded me. We are currently deep into the worlds of Star Wars & Harry Potter, both of which are so fun to re-watch and read with kids.

  • I get through a long day of photo editing with loud music, beer in moderation, and one-sided conversations with my dog
  • I build a killer blanket fort, but I’m not above cheating with light stands and gaffer’s tape.
  • Lately I’m REALLY into hammock naps
  • I’m a good cook but tend to overdo the spices and make a damn mess of the kitchen.
  • Although it’s getting harder to stay up late, live music still makes me feel more alive than anything.

Hey! I’m Summer. Most days you can find me toddler wrangling my two kiddos, attempting to stay presentable, and living by the seat of my pants. I find it extremely difficult to not smile, so be prepared, I’m a very smiley gal.

I love serving the world by capturing the essence of people. Who they are and what they love. I photograph people who love to return to a moment otherwise gone- the way it felt and who you were when it was happening. The small moments that often get overlooked are my favorites: the subtle smirks, sideways glances, big toothy giggles. These fleeting moments are what it’s about. I’m totally into making people laugh and play, to enjoy the ones they are with and going on adventures.

I LOVE my work and consider myself super lucky to do something I am so passionate about. What’s your story?

  • My husband, Michael and our two kiddos, Harbor and Hadley,  currently live in a 90s fixer that we are slowly beautifying!
  • We love spending our evenings in the backyard, exploring new places and enjoying life to the fullest, which includes lazy days at home watching movies and eating junk.
  • Born and raised as an East Coast gal from the Catskill Mountains of NY, a road trip and desire for something completely new , brought me to the PNW 14 years ago.
  • Harbor and Hadley are my muses, my light bringers, my wrinkle and gray hair triggers, my playmates, and the two that are continually inspiring me to see things differently.
